Meet the Fabulous Owner
After years of working in the corporate world, eating conventional food and living the basic North American lifestyle, Bijan and his wife Mojdeh started suffering from digestive issues and poor health. With guidance from the inspiration of Dr. John Matsen’s seminal book Eating Alive: Prevention Thru Good Digestion, the couple discovered their optimal digestion, health, and wellbeing through naturally grown, organic food. It was then that they decided to share the power of organic food with others by selling their organic dishes at farmers markets and health tradeshows. Customers loved their food so much that it prompted the couple to start their own restaurant. Since 2006, Camros Organic Eatery has been serving 100% organic Armenian/Persian inspired vegetarian cuisine to happy customers. Bijan attributes their success to their steadfast dedication to holistic ways of eating without compromise on quality.
Camros Organic Eatery Undressed
Camros is 100% committed to providing customers with 100% organic vegetarian food in every bite. All of the dishes are vegan and contain no meat, dairy, gluten, soy or processed sugar. Every dish and baked good offered at Camros has the ingredients listed beside the food or on the package so you know exactly what you are consuming. The lovely owners of Camros have a great relationships with their organic suppliers; you can check out the list, which includes contact information, in the restaurant or online. They use local produce (including produce from their own garden!) and seasonal food as much as possible.
The food at Camros is inspired by Dr Jonn Matsen’s seminal book Eating Alive: Prevention Thru Good Digestion and strictly follows the principles for holistic eating. Everything is fresh and from scratch; the only canned item used in the recipes is organic tomato paste. When oil is required for cooking they use coconut oil, which remains stable in high heat, nothing is ever fried and they never use trans fats. The grains and legumes used in the delicious dishes are soaked before being cooked to facilitate digestion and the dishes are seasoned with mineral rich Monarch crystal salt. The water available to guests is reverse osmosis filtered to remove heavy metals, chemicals and hormones found in tap water which is then remineralized with trace minerals.
Camros employs green business practices because the owners truly care for our planet. The take out containers, cups and cutlery are all biodegradable, in fact, Camros was the first company in Toronto to start using biodegradable containers! The restaurant is cleaned with natural cleaning products and there is very little food waste due to small batch cooking.
Who’s Hungry?
At Camros you get great taste and health in every meal. They serve a rotating menu on a 2 week basis so you can eat there every day of the week and get something different. Check out today’s menu here! Everyday food is prepared fresh and is ready to pick up so you can quickly get food to go or sit and relax in the comfortable restaurant. The food has a home cooked feel with comforting stews, steaming soups and crunchy salads. Ordering is simple – you choose 1 to 4 items from the daily menu.
The Golden Rice Balls have a deliciously sweet flavor. The saffron and cinnamon laced basmati brown rice has a crisp outer shell that hides a sweet raisin walnut filling. The Ghorme Sabzi is a customer favorite due to its unique Persian herbs and flavour combinations. It is made with gently cooked red kidney beans in a savory stew of spianch and fragrant herbs. The kale in the Raw Kale Salad is marinated in lemon juice, apple cider vinegar and oregano to remove bitterness. It comes with shredded beets and carrots and tastes amazing with a drizzle of Camros’ famous Creamy Tahini Dressing. The super popular dressing is made with the perfect ratio of sesame seeds, apple cider vinegar, oregano and extra virgin olive oil. It tastes great drizzled on ALL of the salads and pretty much any of the warm dishes. All of the food at Camros leaves you feeling deeply satisfied and full of energy.
Around lunch time Camros is a bustling place, with people dropping in to quickly pick up lunch or enjoying their meal in the sundrenched restaurant. The staff is warm, knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions you may have. The owners of Camros keep the food prices as low as possible while maintaining the integrity of the organic holistically prepared food. In my opinion Camros Organic Eatery looks fantastic naked!
