Hey Judene! Thanks for your question.

Here are two websites to check out to help you find farmers in your area that have a local/sustainable/organic focus.

http://www.localharvest.org/
http://www.eatwellguide.org/i.php?pd=Home (This one will even tell you about restaurants, grocery stores, butchers, caterers, etc. When you go to the site the best way to search is with your postal code)

If you find any gems let us know here in the comment section :-)

In health,
Briana

Very interesting and makes a lot of sense! Are there any local, organic, high quality farmers that you recommend? I find it difficult to find local organic farmers - most organic foods I see are from other countries. I would love to hear about where you suggest!! Thanks Briana :)

Hi Nicky,

Unfortunately, organic alone doesn't necessarily mean it will be E. coli free. The bacteria can live on those items as well. However, that being said, many farmers that do grow organic are very conscious of the way they grow their food and the inputs such as fertilizer that they use for them. Purchasing from a small organic farmer who uses the highest quality natural inputs is a good bet. No matter what though, you should still wash them :-)

Hope that helps,
Briana

I totally agree with you Bri that we need to vote with our forks. It is not moral or ethical that these beef companies CHOOSE to use practices that are clearly very risky concerning the health of the ground water, the cows and us humans. I can only see this problem getting worse if the general population doesn't demand change. Thank-you for giving us tips on how to help prevent E.Coli from entering our bodies!
